high-voltage direct currentIn our earlier articles we have discussed more the electrical transmission system and as a concept, there are two types of transmission system such as DC and AC transmission.  Transmission is much popular due to its wide range of application. However today we are going to teach you some important information about DC and AC electrical transmission systems.

high-voltage direct current (HVDC) is one of the famous norms in electrical engineering and due to several unique advantages, this kind of applications are used in particle scenarios. The voltage levels which we use for HVDC are around 100 kV to 1500kv voltage levels.

Before we discuss more high-voltage, direct current (HVDC)  we will discuss more on what are the advantages and disadvantages of High voltage transmission.

    Heres the deal:

    Advantages of High Voltage Transmission

    1. The transmission efficiency is improved where high voltage levels are applied for transmission purposes.
    2. The quantity of conductor material can easily get reduced by the increasing the voltage levels
    3. The voltage drop is reduced so better voltage regulations can obtain under high voltage transmission.

    Disadvantages of High Voltage Transmission

    1. High cost for insulation conductor
    2. The high cost of Transformer, Switchgears, and protection is required.

So these are several advantages and disadvantages of high voltage transmission.

Now we will check out more about DC transmission system:

    high-voltage direct current (HVDC)Transmission System

In most cases, electrical transmission systems are dealing with very high voltage levels. So here are several facts regarding the advantages and disadvantages of the high voltage DC transmission systems.

One of the main disadvantages over DC transmission over AC transmission is its cost.

But for longer distance sometimes HVCD are less expensive and treat really well with electrical transmission losses.

In here you can find out several advantages and disadvantages of DC transmission.

Advantages of DC power Transmission Systems:

    1. DC system only needs two conductors to transmit power unlike the AC system need Three to four wire (with neutral). So savings of the conductor can gain when DC power transmission use for transmission.
    2. No Such surge related problems occur in DC transmission systems
    3. No inductance or capacitance required to maintain such systems.
    4. Unlike AC system No Skin effect occurs in the system.
    5. The entire conductor is used to transmit the power form sending end to receiving end
    6. Compare to AC system less corona effect occurs in the DC system
    7. Very good stable power transmission system.
    8. The potential stress on the insulator is low.
    9. No synchronization difficulties occur as AD system synchronizations
    10. Voltage drop is comparatively less so the voltage regulation is better

Disadvantages of DC Power Transmission Systems:

    1. Commutation problems of the DC system occur in transmission.
    2. Normally Very high DC voltages are difficult to generate.
    3. The DC Switches and Circuit breakers got very own limitations.

hope that you have gained some basic understanding about the advantages and disadvantages of the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system.

The technology which uses for HVDC is completely different from the high voltage AC System.

In the future, we will discuss more the other features of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system.
